Drink Green

I LOVE San Diego weather. I seriously think I suffer from Seasonal Depression Disorder because when the sun is blocked by gray gloomy clouds I hibernate, but when the sun is shining I cannot get enough of it! My goal for yesterday was to rip the garden out, put new yummy dirt in the beds, and start to fertilize the soil so it will be happy and primed for spring planting(which in my book cannot get here fast enough!)! So, after Nick and I took the talks on a hike through the Balboa Park trails we gardened!!!! This is the first time this season we have been in the garden together. It is one of my favorite things to do. The beds look great and healthy. I ripped EVERYTHING out except for the chard which is still growing like crazy. I LOVE having a garden. I love being steps away from fresh organic produce, but I especially love being able to use my greens for my "green smoothies". Can't get much fresher than that! I am a strong believer in eating healthy and from the earth. A few times a week I make a green drink and almost everyday I have an acai smoothie with spinach in it. My husband thinks I am nutso, but I can really feel a difference when I eat right. So, if you have never had acai go get it NOW!!! If you have never had a green drink, make one. I make mine in the blender as opposed to mu juicer because I want all the yummy nutrients. Mine consists of fresh squeezed orange and lemon or lime juice, 3-4 leaves of chard(rainbow or regular), a handful of parsley(flat), and a pinch of ginger. I also add a touch of ice cold water to help the blender. Then, drink up! Hope you are all enjoying the start of spring and feeling as happy and creative as I am!
